The Church Of Christ now known as The South Parkway East Church Of Christ, was established as the Orange
Mound Church Of Christ in 1939. In 1940 it relocated to the corner of Baltimore and Felix under the leadership of
Brother E.W. Anderson. Later in 1949 the congregation moved to 2722 Park Avenue and became known as the Park
Avenue Church of Christ. Brother Anderson moved to Houston, TX. in 1959, and in 1960 Brother Nathaniel Braden
became the minister for the Park Avenue Church Of Christ. The members experienced tremendous growth and they
knew that God had a great work for them to do. It was March of 1962 when The Park Ave. Church of Christ moved
from the Park Avenue location to South Parkway and then became the South Parkway East Church Of Christ.
This
move was truly under the direction of the Lord. In 1962 the Lamar- Parkway Church Of Christ moved to the
southeast part of Memphis, and with the assistance of 11 Memphis churches the Park Avenue Church was able to
complete the move from Park Avenue and become known as The South Parkway East Church Of Christ.
When the Park Ave. Church moved and became The South Parkway East Church Of Christ, they were blessed to
continue to be under the Leadership of one of God’s gifted servants, Br. Nathaniel Braden. For over 30 years Br.
Braden led this Church following the mandates of God.

In 1991 when God told Br. Braden he had done a great work
here. He had brought his people a long way. Just as God had another servant to carry the Children of Israel forward
after Moses, God had another servant for the church at South Parkway East. The church at South Parkway East
looked near and far for the man approved by God. It was after much prayer and following the direction of the Lord,
the church found another servant to carry this church
into the 21st century. The Lord called His servant Br. Ray Peterson Sr. to lead His people at South Parkway East.
This church has moved forward since that time. After the Lord continued to add and give the increase, it became
apparent that the old edifice was not adequate. The church was remodeled to accommodate the various ministries in
order to reach out to the Castilia Community.
God has truly blessed this church, and this church has truly been a blessing to the community. We have truly come
this far by faith and we know that God is not through with us yet.
